Does death by cancer make on a martyr?

Question:

as salāmu alaykum shaykh

I hope you are well in shā Allah.

In one of your articles posted on sunnah.org, it was stated:

“The one who dies of Dhaatul-Janb is a martyr.” Ibn Hibban and others.

Dhatul-Janb is a disease in which a swelling happens in a membrane under the rib bones that could lead to death. From the contemporary diseases to which this also applies is death due to cancer.

Does this apply to all cancers or specific cancers?

Answer:

Alaykum salam,

There are so many hadiths stating that tests and diseases are a purification for the believer that it would be logical to extend its meaning to all cancers.
