Please Explain Madhab

Question:

BRR
As salamu aleikum,

Could you please explain about the fundamentals of madhab.
Is someone “born” into the madhab of his parents or can we chose a madhab or switch our madhab. My husband and I are born into a Shia family and environment we left our countries for many years and now we are alhamdullilahh followers of Sheikh Effendi in the West.

May you please also explain what exactly it means to follow Ahle Sunna wa Jamaa. Does it mean we follow all 4 madhabs? Sorry for this elementary questions but we seek for the right guidance on our path.

Jazzakallahu khairan

Answer:

Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat means to follow one of the four Madhabs (Islamic school of jurisprudence/Fiqh) i.e. Hanafi, Shafii, Maliki & Hanbali. He or she must follow only one Madhab and abide by its rules and regulations.
