Sunni doctrine- Protection against fire

Question:

asalamu ‘alaikum.
Could you please explain why sh Nazim is surprised when people ask Allah’s protection against fire ( Mercy océans p25) ?” Those who say, “Our Lord! avert from us the Wrath of Hell, for its Wrath is indeed an affliction grievous” Q25:65

Answer:

salamun `ala manit-taba`al-huda,

Sorry to say, but, after reading the passage in question, your question appears disingenuous and is worded in a deceptive way to fool the reader, a technique commonly used by Wahabis and Habashis.

I will quote what is written in the book first, since you did not do so:

“We believe that Paradise and Hell are real. It is ‘Haqq,’ truth. Our Grandshaykh says, “I’m always surprised to hear people say, when told about Hell, ‘O, my Lord! Protect us from Hell.’ They ask the wrong thing. They should say, ‘O, my Lord! Protect us from bad actions, and reasons that would lead us to Hell!’ Don’t fear Hell, but your bad actions!”

So your insinuation, like those of Iblees, that Mawlana was denying a verse of Quran is not borne out. Instead Mawlana is explaining a subtle point: that entering Hell is a result of our actions and those seeking refuge from the Fire, should in fact avoid sins, but that commonly, people ask to be saved from the Fire while paying no attention to their own actions which lead them there.

Whereas Allah says the Bearers of the Throne pray:

وَمَن تَقِ السَّيِّئَاتِ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَقَدْ رَحِمْتَهُ وَذَلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ

{And ward off from them ill deeds; and he from whom Thou wardest off ill deeds that day, him verily hast Thou taken into mercy. That is the supreme triumph} (Surat Ghafir, 40:9}

I recommend you fear Allah and don’t go with parties and groups, especially those who seek to harm Allah’s Friends. I am sure you know the Hadith Qudsiyy:

قال رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم – : إن الله قال : من عادى لي وليا فقد آذنته بالحرب

The Prophet (s) said, that Allah said: “Whoever seeks enmity to a Friend of Mine, I declare war on him…” (Bukhari)

Those who today have declared their open enmity, not only to the Friends of Allah but to the Prophets of Allah and their Companions, by blowing up their holy graves and desecrating their shrines, and by attacking their honor and lying on them, should know that Allah is Patient, but in the end He will requit the wrongdoers.

{Those who annoy Allah and His Messenger – Allah has cursed them in this World and in the Hereafter, and has prepared for them a humiliating Punishment.} (Surat al-Ahzab, 33:57)
