My Mahram isn’t helping

Question:

Asalamu alaykum.

I come from a family / culture that expects the children to bring home to the family the person that they want to marry. Islamically, I’m unable to engage with these men due to what our religion says but my family and community have placed this pressure on me. Their expectations are that I bring to my family the man I want to marry. How do I go about meeting these men, what are the constraints on how I can communicate with them. Can I talk on the phone? EmaiI? And what can I do when my mahram Isnt acting like one. Im turning 25 soon and people are already saying What’s wrong with her why hasn’t bought someone home. The haram has been made easy for me but the halal is extremely difficult.

Answer:

`Alaykum Salam,

Your own standards are what is right and blessed in this whole endeavor. Phone and email are OK. May Allah grant you the best in dunya and akhira.
