Question:

Assalaam alaikum wa rehmatullah wa barakatuhu,
I am a male revert to Islam from Hinduism but still a lot of people don’t know that including my family. Now a days my family has started talking about my marriage so I am finding it incredibly difficult to hide it from my family that I am Muslim. I know that they will be shattered emotionally and can even disown me if they come to know that I am refusing to marry a Hindu girl. I don’t want to give them this pain but on the other hand I cannot marry a Hindu girl. What should I do ? Should I be sinning if I refuse them and hurt them because of not marrying a Hindu girl ? Please give me Advice

Answer:

`Alaykum Salam,
You would not be sinning even if you left them, just as the Sahaba migrated away from their non-Muslim families who cursed them or wished them dead. So keep as good relations as you can, but let the Holy Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) and his Companions’ example be dearer to you than mere cultural tradition since Allah Most High gave you the best way to happiness here and hereafter.
