Question:
AsSalam O Aleykum and a thousand thanks to Mawlana and Hajjah and to all those contributing to this rigorous effort.
My question is not an uncommon one. Like many others who grew up in western culture and are cut off from traditional knowledge; when it comes the time to running a household we find that we are unaware of the right decisions to make especially in terms of marriage and how to raise children; or how to behave with children in their youth as they move towards maturity. There are a lot of books out there but most books reflect the writer’s personal experience or opinion instead of reflecting sunnah of Prophet or ways of the Ahlul Bayt. Could you please give sources or books or articles we can refer to reflecting on the subject of raising families and marriage or running households. I am sorry I couldn’t be more specific in my question.
thank you
salams
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
I will refer you to someone who reads a lot and there are some English books like that. There is a shortage of books, but there are 2 or 3 books, I don’t recall their title. They speak on how to raise a family from a Muslim perspective in a western country. I will ask Taher to find some titles and send to you.
To raise children in western society, you are raising them in fire. You can train them from childhood to go with the father or the mother to the masjid. You can also train them to fast 1,2,3 days in Ramadan. There are books about sahaba and about seerah of the Prophet (s) and their lives. Let them read these books and learn about the Prophet (s) and sahaba until we send you these titles.
