Salaam,
I’m very interested in Islamic calligraphy. My intention is to beautify the words of God and also do beautiful prayers on Prophet Muhammad so that the letters will bring blessings upon me. I came across this saying where Abu Darda said that whenever the times come, when you decorate the mosques and decorate mushafs that is the time you will be destroyed as you’ll be preferring symbols over substance.
May I know what are the blessings for one who does Islamic calligraphy and what I should do with Abu Darda’s saying.

Abu al-Darda’s saying concerns those who produce, purchase, or put up those decorations out of pride or insincerity.
