Lineage

Question:

asalam. shaykh gibril I read one of the questions a person asked u. and he said, “I’m Indonesian, live in [private]. Our family believes that we are the descendants of [private] of [private]. We’re facing the condition of losing our identity and it’s really torturing me mentally” and u responded by saying. “Allah swt sometimes likes to expose nasab (lineage) and sometimes He likes to hide it in order to test sincerity. Allah often hides even Prophetic lineage which is much more important.” Well then which hadith says this and how wud 1 know if they are descendents of a certain person or if they’re syeds.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Shaykh Gibril already answered your question in that post by referring to a hadith of our Prophet (s):

Allah swt sometimes likes to expose nasab (lineage) and sometimes He likes to hide it in order to test sincerity. Allah often hides even Prophetic lineage which is much more important.

Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) said: “I don’t want you to come with your nasab on Qiyamah while others come with their deeds!” In other words check your ikhlas and don’t let shaytan and nafs torture you with nasab.
