Umrah whilst in debt

Question:

Asalaam Alaikum

I would like to ask if it is permissible to go on Umrah whilst in debt? In my case whilst I was a student I obtained Tuition fee loans to cover my costs and these are only payable once I earn over £15,000 a year, which I am not at the moment. But even then it is money that I owe but cannot pay back at this moment in time because it is automatically deducted from my pay check once I earn over £15,000 a year. So if I am currently working but not making enough to pay back the loans, but I can save enough money to go Umrah is it acceptable?

Thank you everyone at eshaykh, may Allah(SWT) bless you all!

Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
If your creditor does not have any immediate amount claim against you, you will not be infringing on the rights of your creditor by performing `Umrah on condition that you are sincere in fulfilling the remaining amount according to the commitments. But if your creditor has a claim against you, you will be infringing on his right by performing `Umrah. In this case you need to obtain the prior consent of your creditor. Allah knows best.
