Salat al Janaza ‘ala al-gha’ib

Question:

A’udhu Bil-Lahi min ash-Shaytani-r-Rajeem
Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Rahim!

As-Salamu alaykum wa Rahmatu l-lahi ta’ala wa Barakatuh Ya Shaykh.

A murid here is in confusion regarding the daily practice of the Janazah salaah we pray after Maghrib.  We do understand the importance of the practice in the Naqshbandi Tariqah, but he stated that the Janazah salaah should be prayed outside the masjid area and not in the masjid area itself.

When I pray my Maghrib salaah in the masjid, I would then do the remainder of our practices including the Janazah salaah in the masjid area is this correct?  Please advise.

Please keep us in your du’as.

Answer:

Alaykum Salam wa Rahmat Allahi Ta’ala wa barakatuh.

We pray Salat al janaza ‘ala al-gha’ib wherever we prayed Salatul maghrib just as we have seen Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (Allah bless his secret) do so, whether in or outside the mosque.

This is different from Salatul janaza over an actual bier which, in the Hanafi madhhab, is not performed inside the mosque.
