Translating Quran verses without copying original Arabic verses

Question:

Dear Shaykh Haddad; I asked this question 4-5 months ago but received no reply.
Is it permissible to quote the translation of Quran verses in any other language without copying their original Arabic verses? Or must the Arabic verses be always copied?

Answer:

Qur’an is untranslatable but we may say translate metaphorically while the product is literally an approximation of some of the meanings, or a paraphrase of them, or a commentary and explanation. Such is permissible and has been done starting with Shah Waliyyullah’s Persian “translation” from Fatiha to Nas centuries ago.
