Advice for the sick

Question:

Assalamulaiakom,

Having been born with a genetic skin condition from birth, I sometimes wonder at my situation. As I have gotten older, I began to accept my situation, but then when I think about all the things I can’t do which ‘normal’ people can do, it gets me down. One of the things which I feel really blessed in life about is Allah blessing me to be amongst this tariqa alhumdulilah.

I humbly request for Shaykh Hisham to respond to this and enlighten me with what Islam’s view on people who are ill is, and what I can do to not get down.

Masalams and much respects.

Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
This reply is on Mawlana’s request. You are in an intimate conversation with Allah Most High because of your state, a closeness ‘normal’ people are deprived of. Yet it is the norm of Awliya and they ask for more. Mawlana Shaykh Hisham said their scale of measurement is not like that of common people. It is much finer. May Allah make us know ourselves more and more and latch on Him with boundless gratitude which the Awliya defined as wonderment (tahayyur).
