Beloved Shaykh (Q)

Question:

AOA,

I was wondering if MSN (Q) is still our beloved Shaykh? Can we still do rabita/meditation towards him? Are we still his mureeds and is he still our teacher? Please let me know, I am quite confused.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Yes, yes and yes. Allah says:

Think not of those who are slain in Allah’s way as dead. Nay, they live, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord. (Surat Aali `Imraan, 3:169)

As Mawlana Shaykh Hisham said in a recent suhbat (November 8, 2014): the awliya inherit from Prophet (s) the power of the life of the grave, where the Prophet (s) said:

………………………………………………………….حياتي خير لكم وموتى خير لكم
My life is a great good for you and my death is a great good for you.

Shaykh Hisham explained:

The Prophet (s) said, “My death is better for you than my life.”

Mamaatee khayrun lakum min hayaatee, “My death is better for you than my life,” meaning, “In death, I have more power to reach you.” So Awliya inherit from that hadith they have more power in their grave than in dunya. In dunya there too many dunya events they have to handle but in the grave they are granted hayaatun barzakhiyyun, heavenly life, so with this they can reach us. That is why Prophet (s) said, mamaatee khayran lakum min hayatee and awliya inherit from Prophet (s) in that regard, so their death is better for us than their life in the spiritual meaning.
