What should I do if an old sin is afflicting me by counterproductive thinking about it cause I obsess about this thinking. I feel this counterproductive thinking about this sin is killing my passion for Islam and my love to ALLAH and His messenger (peace upon him)What should I do to give this counterproductive thinking up (and the obsess about it)and to win back the strong love and passion to ALLAH, Islam and to his messenger? For every recurring memory of it just humbly renew your istighfar. Our sins are not an important idol but a stairwell for building repentance and affirming our lowliness before the All-Forgiving and draw nearer and nearer to Him.
