Dargah

Question:

I want to know if it is permissible for a woman to visit a dargah. Can you please tell me the procedure for asking dua by the intercession of a peer in a dargah. What i need to read when stepping in the dargah. Thank you.

Answer:

  1. yes, it is permissible, just as it is permitted for women to visit a masjid and with the same rules (i.e. do not enter the prayer area during menses or post-partum bleeding; enter through separate entrance and/or keep to separate areas if required).
  2. use the du`a of the blind man of intercession through the Prophet (s) as the peer is a representative and carrier of light from the Prophet (s).
  3. as when entering a masjid, enter with the right foot reciting Bismillahi ‘r-rahmani ‘r-raheem Allahuma iftah abwaabu fadlik,  and salawat on the Prophet and his Family. When leaving, exit with left foot and recite Bismillahi ‘r-rahmani ‘r-raheem Allahuma iftah abwaabu rahmatik, and salawat on the Prophet and his Family.

And Allah knows best.
