Abu Bakr as-Siddiq and Sahabas making salawat on Prophet

Question:

Assalamun alaykum ya ibadillahissalihin

I heard that there is a tradition which is saying that in the time of khalifat of Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, in the day of mawlid an-nabi (birthday of Prophet salAllahualayhiwasallam), he used to gather the sahabas and all together making salawat on Prophet salAllahualayhiwasallam. But, I can’t find this tradition in some book of Islamic ulama. Can you please tell me some reference about this tradition?
May Allah subhanaHuwaTaala bless you and increase your maqam.

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

There is no such tradition. The Sahaba celebrated the event of the Prophetic birth in their personal poetry and through fasting the second day of the week (Monday) in accordance with that was prescribed.

Formally observing the day of the Mawlid through gatherings was a much later historical practice.
