Sending Salawat on Muhammad(Saw)

Question:

Assalamalaikum,

I want to ask that what is the origin of sending the short form of salat on Prophet(Saw) , which is Sallahu Alaihi wasallam. Because all those salawats which were taught by Prophet(Saw) included salawat on AAL e Muhammad(Saw).

So what is the origin of saying Sallahu alaihi wasallam? Who started it? Was this shorter form taught by Prophet(Saw) or Companions of Prophet(Saw) or it was started by scholars?

If it was started by Prophet(Saw) or sahaba(ra) then please quote that narration.

Fi aman illah

Answer:

`Alaykum as-Salam,

The short form (without the Aal) is from the Divine command in the Holy Qur’an (33:56) and the short form is what the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) mostly used, and others used when addressing him, as narrated by so many Sahaba from him such as `Ali b. Abi Talib, Ibn `Umar, `A’isha, Anas, Abu Talha al-Ansari, Usayd b. Hudayr, Fadala b. `Ubayd al-Ansari, Abu Barza al-Aslami, `Utban b. Malik and others, Allah be well-pleased with all of them.
