I have heard that the you must have permission to recite duah Hazrat Dawood otherwise the wazifa can backfire in physical or spiritual ways? Is this true? If so under what circumstances would this wazifa backfire. On this site it states that general permission is granted but on another site similar to this, it says otherwise.

Yes, general permission has been granted on Eshaykh for those intending marriage in-sha-Allah. However, if you have doubt, you may follow Shaykh Gibril’s advice given in a previous post:
You should not be confused, but rather follow the advice of the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) as stated in the forty Hadiths collected by Imam al-Nawawi: “Leave what causes you doubt and stick to what does not cause you any doubt.” (Tirmidhi, Nasa’i)
