Question:
Salaam shaykh, I hope you are well, my question is how should you interact or be with someone who uses you because they want something from you? After that thing is attained they don’t bother with you or help or accompany you any more? How should your attitude be towards them? And how should our attitude be towards a person who wants nothing from you yet he helps you for no reason? What is the reward for this ?
Answer:
The Prophet s.a.w. says in a Hadith which means, “The example of a good companion and a bad companion is like that of the seller of musk, and the one who blows the blacksmith’s bellows.. So as for the seller of musk then either he will grant you some, or you buy some from him, or at least you enjoy a pleasant smell from him. As for the one who blows the blacksmith’s bellows then either he will burn your clothes or you will get an offensive smell from him.” (Bukhari, Muslim)
Be mindful of the company you take as they will affect you. If you feel there is no benefit in keeping with someone of such description, then it is preferred you avoid them. If you wish to help then do so sincerely and your reward is with Allah.
