Reading and crying

Question:

Salam Alaikum, shaykh, mostly when I read delailul khayrat or Quran, at random I’m reminded of those who oppressed me, and I cry. I keep reading but I cry. Why is that? Is that bad?

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

It is not because of those who oppressed you, though you may think so. It is because of our oppression of our souls by our own selves and when that light enters, our souls realize it and feels that regret. And Allah knows best.

It is a sign of faith.

And when they listen to the revelation received by the Messenger, thou wilt see their eyes overflowing with tears, for they recognize the truth: they pray: “Our Lord! We believe; write us down among the witnesses. Al-Ma’idah [5:83]
