Qurb un-Nabi

Question:

Assalamualaikum dear shaykhs,

This is a hard question for me. I’m trying to be grounded in my life and heart and to be strong with my belief. It’s hard.

Recently I was pondering about the greatness of our Nabi (peace be upon him) and the verse which say wa’lamu anna fikum RasoulAllah. Then I read an ayat of Quran:

This is part of the tidings of the things unseen, which We reveal unto thee (O Prophet!) by inspiration: thou was not with them when they cast lots with arrows, as to which of them should be charged with the care of Maryam: nor was thou with them when they disputed (the point)” (The Holy Qur’an, Chapter 3, Verse 44)

Was the spirituality of our Nabi (peace be upon him) present from Adam (A.S) time to date and is he present with us, does the verse point to only syedi’s physical presence only.

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

The spirituality of the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) is represented in the hadith as his Nubuwwa (Prophethood) pre-dating Adam, while his physicality is represented by his human person born at a certain time and his Risala (Messengership) which appeared after he turned 40 years of age. The verse in Al Imran as many other verses refers to the latter to show the Christians and Jews that the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) could not have read all these accounts in books and was not there to witness them historically, so how could he know all these details unless it was divine revelation coming to him?

And Allah knows best.
