Consumed non-halal by mistake

Question:

Salamu alaykum Sheikhs,

Recently, we had a company dinner which was held in a restaurant. (non-halal as we are in Europe)

There was a “spread” given to us with bread which I consumed. The ingredients given by waiter did not list any meat. But later on I found out it contained tiny bits of ham which is not really visible and in small quantity.

I usually try my best to be aware of what I’m eating here in Europe. But consuming pork-related item is too much for me to handle even if it’s by mistake.
My question is: What can I do to purify myself?
I’ve seek forgiveness from Allah immediately upon return home since I was initially unaware that ham was part of the content. Is there anything else that I should do?

Please advise me. I’m troubled with this mistake I made and feel very sad.
Thank you.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

There is no harm in that as it was never your intention to consume non-halal meat. Just ask about the food being served the next time, as there is no harm in doing this either.
