Fasting

Question:

Asalaamu alaikum,

I’m a 3rd year student & our curriculum entails doing 2 subjects at a time. However, the 1st is a semester subject (complete it over 2 terms) & the other is a 6 week subject. This makes it very hectic because the subject contents are very broad & we have to complete a years work in 6 weeks while tackling another subject. Includes writing exams every week and doing assignments, etc. There’s 6 subjects altogether. I also have a baby that’s 4 months old, so its very hectic. It’s all very exhausting and stressful for me. What I would like to know is, if I am still obligated to observing Ramadaan (fasting) this year? I would like to, however, I feel as if its going to lead me to illness or burnout. Note: I’m not breastfeeding anymore as my breast milk dried up by 3 months.

Jazaaka’Allah

Answer:

If you fear that your fast might harm your baby’s health or your health you have a valid excuse not to fast.
