Evidence of calling the dead Saints for help

Question:

As’salamu alaikum,

What is the evidence from Quran and hadith on calling the dead saints for help? Is there any evidence like the ruling of expiatory payment for missed prayers drawn from the expiation for missed fasts about this calling? Is there any evidence that dead saints are given the power of tasarruf in the affairs of living? What is the evidence that saints pray for us if called? Don’t the pious dead remain engrossed in the bounties of Allah (swt) after death instead of attending to the call of living? Is the case of Prophet (saws) praying for the Ummah when the deeds are shown not different & unique to him (saws)? Can the example of Malik bin Dinar (ra) going to Prophet’s grave & Utbi’s narration about the bedouin seeking forgiveness at Prophet (saws)’s grave be evidence for calling saints after their death? Is istigatha not risky & tawassul safe?

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

We agree that tawassul is safe so obey Allah and seek a wasila to Him.
