Maqams

Question:

As salaamwalekum

i have seen that in many centers in different parts of the world, the murids have made Grand Shaikhs Maqam (look alike) and treat it like Grand Shaikhs real maqam.

kindly clarify if this is permissible and how and is it done by instruction of Maulana?

Jazakallakhair.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

These should be done only at the advice/instruction of Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim. Such a maqam as Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani has explained, is not the real grave, but it is a mashhad, a place where the presence of Grandshaykh’s soul has been observed by Mawlana Shaykh. This is not uncommon for awliyaullah for they transcend “normal” boundaries of time and space. You can see for example the mashhad of Sayyidina Bayazid al-Bistami in Bangladesh, though his real maqam in Iran.
