I would like to know whether it is a sin to trim the beard to less than fist length if it has not yet reached fist length? Also, if your beard looks scruffy when it grows long are you allowed to trim it short to keep it neat?

Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
“Fist” here does not mean to limit the length of the beard but to define the minimum when trimming. The Sahabah used to trim slightly as well to keep it neat.
