Compilation of the Quran al-Majid

Question:

Salam
Dear Shaykh Gabriel,
I wanted to know of a tradition from the ‘Itiqan of Imam al-Suyuti mentioned here: http://www.islamic-life.com/other-refutations/quran/article-quran-preserved

It mentions that “The earlier recension (Original copy prepared by Abu Bakr) was to serve as the principal basis of the new one.” i.e. during Sayyidina ‘Uthmans radhiullah anhum recension ” that when they were compiling the Qur’an under the supervision of ‘Uthman (radiallahou anho), one of the companion (radiallahu anho) forgot an ayah….”

My query was: is this an authentic narration from Sayyidina Zayd radiullah anhu and how is it understood since the first compilation would have contained all the Qur’an al-Majid, how could one ayat have been left out since there where sayyidina Abu Bakr and sayyidina ‘Umar and sayyidina Ubay and other of the great shahaba radiullah anhum present?
wasalam

Answer:

`Alaykum Salam,
The Companion knew of the ayah but was unsure of its wording, then
another Companion gave him the precise wording. Nothing was left out at
any time. This is all shown on the same site you quote.
