Question:
Assalamu Aleykum WRWB
Does the concept of “Déjà vu” exist in Islam, whereby one feels sure that one has already witnessed or experienced a current situation, even though the exact circumstances of the previous encounter are uncertain and were perhaps imagined or that the experience has genuinely happened in the past? Did Rasoolallah ever mention anything around this topic? Jazakallah and Wasalaam
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
The deja vu, as Shaykh Hisham has explained, is when your physical reality is in close congruence with your spiritual destiny as written in the Lawh al-Mahfuzh (Preserved Tablet), as opposed to someone whose sins have cause him to fall from what his best destiny should be. That is because what is on the Lawh is the ultimate you can achieve, a life in perfect worship, but what you achieve is dunya is reduced by sins.
