Question:
Salam alaykum,
I have seen female swimmers of Indian descent at the Lake swimming very often. They wear their traditional clothing made of gauze cotton. It clings to the body when with, but with the large scarf / hijab, you can still stay covered pretty well. Is it OK, for women to swim in public places while fully dressed, even if the clothes to cling to the body? Another concern is that some colors also become transparent when wet. It’s hard to make sure no one will see anything, but the large scarf / hijab wrapped around should be enough to stay modest. Alhamdulillah, the gauze drys very quickly once out of the water. Thank you.
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
The only safe venue for Muslim women to swim in public is WOMEN ONLY areas where they can wear what they prefer.
