Question:
What is the judgment of Ibn Lahi`a’s narrations?
Answer:
Salam alaykum,
Although al-Haythami in Majma` al-Zawa’id (10:170) describes him as “fair in his narrations,” Ibn Lahi`a is considered weak in his narrations by the majority of hadith scholars except when he narrates from the following:
– `Abd Allah b. al-Mubarak,
– `Abd Allah b. Wahb,
– `Abd Allah b. Yazid al-Muqri’
– `Abd Allah b. Maslama al-Qa`nabi,
– Sa`id b. Abi Sa`id Kaysan al-Maqburi
– and his father Kaysan.
Whenever he narrates from any one of the above, Ibn Lahi`a’s narrations are sahih as a rule.
