Confused

Question:

Assalamualaykum!

I married a Christian. We have two sons. We’re married in both Muslim and Christian rites, my intention that will be better in our both parents will in peace and harmony. We’re living with different faiths. We’re living in their land, a village, and she teaches there. I’m a police and I’m assigned far. Sometimes I can’t go home. We always argue at this time, mostly about belief. They are so ignorant about Islam. Their grandparents had a bad impression with Muslims. I’m worried with my sons. I worried if I can’t up-bring them with Islam. And I worried is if I die early.I intend to show them how good Muslims are.

I can no longer take their doings and their attitudes. Will I get divorce with her? Will I leave the place? What if my will not go with me if I leave? If I divorce her, what should I do with my two sons?

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

You cannot remain long together with different faiths. Marrying a non-Muslim means she will eventually follow you but it is you who followed her. You married a Christian teacher and moved to her own village and property where they are neck-deep in false notions about Islam so it is no wonder you have problems guiding the family. For your own sake and that of your children you need to move from that place as soon as possible. Find a good job elsewhere so that your wife will be motivated to move with you, with promises of a  better life in sha Allah. If she refuses to move then leave her to what she chooses and move on. It might take a while but in the meantime do your best to guide her and others.
