Question:
بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم
asalamu ‘alaikum. I would like to describe a situation to Mawlana Shaykh : i want to complain about people who give you advises against the Shari’ah. Sometimes i seek advise to the elders of our mosque, some seniors students and they give me advises that seem really contradictory with Islamic religion. Such as : if you’re working, it’s okey if you don’t pray. If you have class, miss jumua’h prayer, no problem. Shave your beard, take off your hat, if your mother present you unlawful food, eat it. I respect my elders, i believe they have more experience, but those kind of advise really confuse me. The few times i listened to ShaykhHisham, never he said anything opposite to shari’ah. So, it makes me angry when they say “the shaikh said do” and he never did. salam ‘alaikum
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
It may be they are relating things from Mawlana Shaykh Hisham without giving the full context or explanation of what he was saying. Listen more from what he says online at sufilive.com to know that the Shaykh does not contradict the Shari`ah and to also understand the enormous flexibility that fiqh contains, but which only few scholars today understand how to apply.
Listen to your elders and teachers in what you know conforms with Shari`ah and the rest ignore, but keep respect and don’t argue.
