A talk where modern day professions was discussed, it was mentioned that accountancy is not desirable relating the profession to what is mentioned Surah Humazah about counting and collecting money.

You are referring to this Ayah of the Surah “Who amasses wealth and hoards it“.
What is meant by this Ayah is to warn the one who loves wealth so much so that he always counts his golden coins, or other things among his riches and considers his riches center of everything in his life. There is nothing wrong to be an accountant by profession.
