Our daughter’s name was changed to Fatimah when she was young. We are now changing it legally on her passport etc. Is it permissible to add ‘Zahra’ to her name in honour of Sayyida Fatimah Zahra (as), or is this name/title not allowed?
Answer:
Assalamu alikum wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatu:
From a legal perspective, it is permissible since that is a blessed name. However, there is powerful energy connecting a name to the person who will receive that name. In order to make sure that the energy is harmonious between the child and this name (i.e. to make sure that the name is not too powerful to carry) it is best to make istikhara and bring the child to a wali and ask them in person inshallah!
