Yes it could, so the work is only just begun. The rest is up to the couple to work and to help each other to purify themselves, because that is what marriage is for. Would you prefer that person will continue with his addiction until it destroys him or her (spiritually and physically)? That is the Sunnah, and keep in mind that in the time of Jahiliyyat society was also hyper-sexualized much as today.
