Question:
Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu…
Jazakallah Khair for the wonderful portal that where we can trust the information posted by well-known sheikhs. I’d like to ask- what is the ruling regarding masturbation? What happens if one masturbates even after getting married due to low satisfaction? Is it halal or haram then? What can one do to avoid this disastrous habit? If you have any medical explanation for quitting masturbation, kindly quote. Jazakallah Khair!!
Answer:
`Alaykum as-Salam,
All schools agree it is haram for a married person. One can marry again. Seek refuge in Allah Most high from an insatiable appetite/nafs: Allahumma inni a`udhu bika min nafsin la tashba`.
The early Muslims said unchecked lust deprives a man of his most prized possession which is intellect; but also honor: Shakespeare called it a vast expense of spirit in a waste of shame. “The one who eats all alone is a shaytan.” Avoid whatever fuels it by controlling the senses. Strive to direct back that particular energy to the context where it builds up holiness and purity.
Dhikr consists in engaging the mind and body into a long-range program of angelic pursuits not animal ones. Divorce the body from intimacy with the necessity of its pleasures as it veils up the heart. This is the advice of Mawlana Shaykh Hisham in his suhbas of last Ramadan and elsewhere.
