Reference to ‘Us’ in Quran

Question:

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
Assalamu ‘Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,

I have a question regarding the use if the word ‘Us’ in the English translation of the Quran. Many of the verses mention this word i.e (They found a servant of Ours whom We had granted mercy from Us and whom We had also given knowledge direct from Us. (Surat al-Kahf, 65) ). Why is the plural used? Allah is one so why isn’t the word ‘Mine’ and ‘Me’ used instead of ‘Ours’ and ‘Us’? Is this an incorrect English translation?
Thank you ever so much for the wonderful work you put into answering all our questions. It is very much appreciated. Bismillah

Answer:

`Alaykum salam

It is a ‘plural of majesty’ also known as the royal plural, used to heighten a sense of awe in the servant of Allah Most High.
