Question:
My husband and I got married when he was studying at a prestigious private law school but stayed unemployed a year later. With a sick father, a failing family law practice, and no prospects of finding employment here; I insisted he go home, tend to his family problems and failing law practice. Upon his arrival he was received by extreme hostility by family and employees at his firm. The practice failed shortly there-after. I have been living with my father for 5 years with inconsistent financial support from my husband, we have not seen each other in 5 years, we do speak over the phone. Thinking I’d eventually love my husband as time passed but with him making no serious efforts to settle down, what should I do? He is aware of his Islamic duties upon me. May Mawlana Shaykh Nazim(QS), Mawlana Shaykh Hisham (QS), Mawlana Shaykh Mehmet (QS), Mawlana Shaykh Bhauddin (QS), Mawlana Shaykh Adnan (QS), Hajjah Naziha(QS) and Hajjah Amina (QS) accept us as ashes under their Holy Steps. Ameen
Answer:
You have the right to divorce him on grounds of absence so he has in effect put the decision into your hands. Consult Allah through istikhara and ask Him to provide you with the best here and hereafter. Recite Salawat daily to the intention of a better marital life.
