Question:
As-salamu alaykum,
I a reverted to Islam about two years ago, my wife is an atheist and currently is not supportive of my practice. She constantly scoffs at me for eating halal, not drinking alcohol, and praying five times a day. I took my son to a dhikr gathering, which he enjoyed and she states that I should not teach him to be a Muslim because he won’t have a normal life. I am thinking of a divorce because she is unsupportive and will not help me in my deen. Am I wrong to want a divorce because we were married before I became a Muslim?
Answer:
Wa `alaykum salam,
I understand your concern. I would advise that you should be patient enough and wait and pray for your wife to open up her heart to Islam. But if you ran out of your patience and lost hope in better days, then you can divorce your wife. Allah knows best.
