Assalamualaykum Respected Scholars.
A Sister gave birth to a baby boy and both parents decided to call him Muhammad Al Hashimi after the prophet Mohammed peace be upon him, and lately they heard that it the prophet preferred people to be called after his name i.e. Mohammed not his nickname i.e. Hashimi . Is that true? And if it is true what should i do?

Alaykum as-Salam,
It is incorrect, what is disliked is name+kunya i.e. Abu al-Qasim Muhammad. Muhammad al-Hashimi is fine.Moreover, it is also the name of one of the great Awliya from the Prophetic Tree, Allah have mercy on him.
