Question:
Dear Respected Sheih,
Can you please explain to me about the following hadeeth.
Muslim :: Book 4 : Hadith 995
Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said: I was commanded to prostrate myself on the seven (bones) and forbidden to fold back hair and clothing. (The seven bones are): forehead, nose, bands, knees and feet.
I read someone has mentioned that it is for people who fold their clothes (Bottom of the pants, sometimes the shirt sleeves). Please explain the correct view.
Jazakallahu Hairan,
Answer:
Qadi Iyad in his commentary on Sahih Muslim explained that this prohibition is because everything is meant to prostrate at the time of prostration including the hair. He added that there is consensus (ijma`) that the prayer of someone who folds back hair or clothes is still valid and he does not have to repeat it, but it is disliked. And Allah knows best.
