Hadith authenticity

Question:

as salamu 3alaykum ya shaykh,
Yesterday a Christian missionary gave me a brochure in which Islam is supposed to be refuted. Therein he quotes following hadith:

“Muhammad said: I offered a white sheep to goddess al-Uzza when I was the follower of the religion of my people (Quraysh) [Hisham Ibn Al-Kalbi,(Kitab al-Asnam) p.17-18]”

I would like to know if it is authentic or fabricated.
Jazakallah

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,
Ibn al-Kalbi is not a hadith scholar. He is discarded (matruk) as a narrator and this story has no chain.
