Question:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked Abu Bakr Siddiq why did he recite Quran in a low voice? Abu Bakr replied: “He to whom I call, hear.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked Umar b. Khattab why did he did recite Quran in a high voice? He replied: “To wake the drowsy and drive away the Devil.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that, “ the good deeds of Umar was only (equivalent to) a single one of the good deeds of Abu Bakr R.A…..”Taken from (Kashf Al-Mahjub) by Ali Al-Hujwiri”
“ the good deeds of Umar was only (equivalent to) a single one of the good deeds of Abu Bakr R.A.”.. Somebody has asked me for the authenticity of this hadith. I want to know if this hadith is narrated in any of the hadith books.
Thanks and May Allah bless sheikh Nazim and all his disciples.
Answer:
Alaykum Salam,
The authentic version does mention the two statements of Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, after which the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) ordered the first one to raise his voice a little and the second one to lower it a little. (Tirmidhi)
