as-Salaat was-Salaamu ‘alayka ya Khatm al-Anbiya wal-Mursaleen!!!
i once recall reading that Hazrat Imam Mahdi, ‘alayhi salaam, will uncover an enormous mountain of gold and certain people will rush to it but they will be told that from that day forward trade and buying/selling as we have known it throughout human history is no more…
does such a narration even exist or am i completely confused?
…can someone please speak to us about this….

Perhaps you are thinking of this hadith:
Allah’s Prophet (s) said, “Soon the river “Euphrates” will disclose the treasure (the mountain) of gold, so whoever will be present at that time should not take anything of it.” Al-A’raj narrated from Abu Huraira that the Prophet (s) said the same but he said, “It (Euphrates) will uncover a mountain of gold (under it).” (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 88, Number 236)
