Question:
Asalaamualaykum wr wb..
I study English Literature for College and the novels I have to analyse are of the ‘Romance’ genre..
I feel embarassed and ashamed when I read such novels and skip the distasteful parts but I feel that I am wasting my time..Particularly since we are in the Holy Month of Ramadaan and I want to reap as many benefits as possible..
I enjoy studying this subject and i’m very good at it but this particular obstacle is difficult to overcome..
It’s not as if i am studying it out of interest – but rather academic reasons, does that make it OK? and should i therefore be less agitated as my intention is pure?
Please advise me on this ..
May Allah Reward You for the Honour of His Most Honourable Creation,
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
Since you are skipping the “haram” parts just consider it as a course requirement and a hurdle to be overcome on the path to something more useful, and a means of earning provision, and Allah makes it easy insha-Allah. The alternative is worse, to drop the course and possibly miss your graduation time table… etc. and Allah knows best.
