Question:
Assalamu alaikum,
My wife would like to go to a non-Muslim (Hindu) wedding this weekend. She says she will not remain for the music and dancing but wants to go because it is a very close friend of hers. There will be some free mixing but my wife will be as careful as possible and modestly dressed.
I remain uncomfortable about this. What is the ruling of having close non-Muslim friends? What is the ruling on attending non-Muslim weddings? If I say I would not like her to go because it’s not good for the heart, it will upset her greatly but what is the best thing to do?
Jazakh’Allahu khayran
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
We are to do da’wah (to invite to Islam) and therefore kind towards non-Muslims. If that is our intention we are allowed to attend non-Muslim weddings.
