Question:
Salam.
I hope you will not find my question disrespectful or rude, however, this is an issue which has been puzzling me for a while. I have recently become interested in Sufism and taken Bayyath through the website. My family are sceptical about Sufism and my mother challenged me on this issue, She asked why there are pictures and videos which show Sheikh Hisham and Sheikh Nazim touching the hands of women as they take Bayyath, should they not make it clear that this is not allowed as the Prophet SAW wouldn’t touch the hands of a woman when giving Bayyath?
I do not mean to be disrespectful in any way however I am asking this question as I didn’t know what to say to my mother about this.
Please make dua for us. JazakAllah
Answer:
The question is not only disrespecful, but what was said is not true. There is no video of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim or Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Hisham giving baya` by touching the hands of women. They always use a cane or staff, or a mahram, in between.
