Assalamu Alaykum, May Allah (SWT) bless you.
I have read the post that the use of tampons is haram. Is it also haram to use a tampon or other device, such as an earbud, just to check whether one’s period has come to an end? (not to leave the tampon in, but just use it to check). If this is haram, how does one determine when one’s period has come to an end so that one can be sure it is time to make ghusl and resume praying?

When you do not see spotting any more it means it is over, the monthly period is between 7 to 10 days. You don’t need to check, yes it haram.
