As-Salamu ‘Alaikum,
One of the conditions for the validity of Nikah is the presence of bridegroom and bride or his/her wakeel at the place of nikah where the witnesses listen to the “eejaab-proposal” and “qubool-accaptance” of the couple.
Due to a valid reason such as covid-19, this can be arranged over the phone or other devices which can provide the procedure of the signing of the marriage live. If it is in the US, a marriage licence is to be obtained and presented to the imam officiating the marriage.
