Organ Replacement

Question:

Dear Fadhilatus Shaykh,
Assalamu ‘alaikum wr wb.

I hope and do’a that you and your family are in the best of health and
imaan. May I forward to you an enquiry given to me about the mas’alah.
The question is: What is the ruling for Muslims accepting organs from
other animals like cows or others? Pigs valves are apparently also used
to replace human heart valves. Is this allowed?

I do not know the answer. I told the questioner that I will seek an
‘aliim irsyad.

Thank you jazaakumullah khairal jazaa’ Shaykh, wassalam.

Answer:

Alaykum salam

Ulema have different opinions on organ donation but the majority
consider it halal. This was discussed in Dr. Wahbat al Zuhayli’s book al
Fiqh al Islami, last volume. It is like a prosthetic limb so it does not
matter if made of metal or animal tissue, inside or outside the body. As
for tissue for non-halal animals it depends on the situation. Risk of
loss of life makes the haram halal as you know.
